The teenage years are often the best time to straighten teeth and correct bite problems. At Lusk Orthodontics, we offer the latest treatment options and a personalised approach to help teenagers achieve healthy, confident smiles.
What sets us apart is that we don’t take a “one size fits all” approach. While many clinics only offer one solution, we provide a full range of treatments — from traditional braces and clear aligners to lingual (invisible) braces and functional appliances. This means your child gets the treatment that truly fits their needs and lifestyle.
One of the most common bite problems in teenagers is when the upper teeth stick out, known as an increased overjet. Traditionally, this is treated with a removable functional appliance such as a Twin-Block, followed by braces. However, many teenagers find Twin-Blocks bulky and difficult to wear. At Lusk Orthodontics, we also offer fixed alternatives such as the MARA or Herbst appliances, as well as modern solutions using TADs (temporary anchorage devices) that can often replace bulky or uncomfortable traditional appliances.
For certain cases, especially when a narrow upper jaw is part of the problem, we offer skeletal palatal expansion with MARPE or MSE devices. These are more effective in teenagers than traditional expanders. For parents who are concerned about extractions, we also use TADs and CAD-CAM-designed appliances, which in some cases can reduce or even avoid the need to remove permanent teeth.
We look at more than just teeth. If we notice signs of breathing difficulties or snoring during the assessment, Dr Erfan Salloum works closely with trusted ENT specialists in Dublin. In some cases, skeletal expansion can complement ENT treatments (such as tonsil or adenoid surgery), ensuring your child’s orthodontic care supports their overall health and well-being.
